Detroit had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Marquis Grissom got things going when he smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 10th of the season). Doug Mirabelli followed and he delivered a solo blast (his 6th of the season) resulting in an exciting win for Detroit and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. Detroit rapped out 12 hits for the afternoon. Washburn(11-3), allowing 4 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Eddie Guardado(1-3) was hit with the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing 2 hits and no walks.
